Once you are outfitted, you will be taken down to the put in and the float trip will begin! The river will greet you with class I and II rapids. Here you will practice paddle strokes, laugh with peers, and look upon the beautiful wildlife that frequent the Upper Gorge. When the purple cliffs come into vision, you will be entering the Gorge, and the whitewater will turn into class III rapids! As the raft trip passes under triple bridges, you will start to approach our favorite rapid: Tumbleweed! Make sure to paddle hard and smile large as you go through this rapid. At the end of the raft trip you will be able to purchase pictures of your whitewater rafting experience.

After Tumbleweed, there will be an opportunity to cliff jump right above another one of our favorite rapids, Fang! Once you whitewater raft through Fang, you will pull over and enjoy a locally grown lunch next to the beautiful Fish Creek. While your guides prepare lunch, you can swim in the crystal-clear water of Fish Creek.

Alberton Gorge

When lunch comes to an end, we pack up the boats and head into the lower gorge. This holds the opportunity to take in the beautiful scenery around you, float through some whitewater rapids, and play games on the raft ! The raft trip comes to an end at Tarkio. When we reach the takeout, the guides will take you back to the Western Waters shop, and your adventure will come to a close!

Sara Forsythe with Western Waters

Both watersheds provide the opportunity to catch the native cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout. Full days and half days are available for both areas. We are one of the few outfitters that offer an incredible fishing and rafting combined trip. Think rapids and catching a 20” trout 30 seconds from each other while meandering through breathtaking scenery. We call it the combo trip!

Teen fishing camp

We track the river flows, follow the hatches, and understand how the wild and unpredictable weather affects our rivers and streams. Offering full day and half day trips on the Clark Fork, Blackfoot, Bitterroot, and Western Montana rivers where we employ drift boats or rafts outfitted to navigate these rivers. The rivers are noted for Rainbow, Cutthroat, Brown and Bull trout, while neighboring forest banks provide views of deer, elk, beaver, osprey, eagles, kingfisher, geese, and the occasional moose. Whether you are an avid fly fisherman or a novice seeking a new way to spend time in the great outdoors, our guides will suit your needs! We have guides for spin fishing and fly fishing. 40 years of guiding experience under our belts has given us a reputation as the most knowledgeable guides for fly fishing in Montana (Jared Forsythe, Outfitter #10749).
